    FREE Run: Run VondelPark: Intervals
**Short Intervals run**: one lap, about 40 mins, around Vondelpark. This is an Intervals session, so we mostly jog, stopping 3-4 times to do different exercises. There are also a few 100m sprints mixed in at various points. At the end of each sprint, we pause to wait for everyone, so all sprint speeds are accommodated ;) As the nights are getting darker, if you have armband lights or reflective clothing, bring it along! Practicalities
Do I need to be fast?+

No. Most Amsterdam clubs run 5:30 to 6:30 min/km in their social pace and split into pace groups before the start. Sunday Run Club, City Alps, and Bambas explicitly run no-drop.

    Do I pay?+

Almost never. The vast majority of clubs are free, including Sunday Run Club, NDSM, City Alps, Adidas Runners, and Nike+. You pay if you join a structured marathon block with a coach.

Do clubs run in winter, in the dark, in the rain?+

Yes, all of it. Amsterdam runs year round and the Dutch attitude is that weather is not a reason. Bring a windbreaker, a buff, and a head torch for canal-side stretches in December, then keep showing up.

    Is it in English?+

Yes for almost every club in central Amsterdam. Sunday Run Club, ARC, NDSM, Bambas, Founders, and the brand-led crews default to English because the runs are 30 to 50% expat. Pure-Dutch clubs exist but are usually atletiekverenigingen, not social run clubs.

    Can I show up alone?+

That is the entire premise. Showing up solo is the most common way people join, and the first ten minutes of any Amsterdam run is small talk with whoever is next to you.

    Are there beginners?+

Yes. Sunday Run Club has a Saturday 10:00 beginners run from Vondelpark. We Run the City runs a 13 to 15 week beginners course. Coffee Run takes any pace.

What about post-run beers or coffee?+

Coffee after the Sunday run is basically mandatory. Tuesday tempo runs often roll into a borrel. Coffee Bru in Oost, Bocca, Lot Sixty One, and the Vondelpark CAU pavilion are the obvious post-run anchors.

    Is gear required?+

Shoes and a layer you can run in. That is it. Some clubs hand out free shirts after a few sessions (Adidas Runners, Bambas), but nobody checks what you are wearing.

How do I find my pace group?+

Show up 10 minutes early and ask. Every club captain calls out pace groups before departure, usually 4:30, 5:00, 5:30, 6:00 and "easy chat", and you slot in. If you guess wrong, you switch groups next week.

Do clubs run during the Amsterdam Marathon weekend?+

Most clubs cancel their normal session and either spectate at the 30 km mark on the Amstel or run the marathon, half, or 8 km as a group. The week after is recovery week, expect easy paces.

What if I am in Oost and the club is in Zuid?+

Pick a club in your neighbourhood. The whole point of Amsterdam clubs is they are 10 minutes from your front door. NDSM if you are in Noord, City Alps if you are in Oost, Sunday Run Club if you are in Zuid, Sloterplas if you are in Nieuw-West.

    How big are the runs?+

25 to 80 on a normal weeknight, north of 100 at Sunday Run Club Vondelpark on a sunny Sunday, smaller and tighter at neighborhood clubs like NDSM or Erasmuspark.

    What's a no-drop, a tempo, a ronde, a borrel?+
    Pace group.
    A sub-group within a club organized by min/km, usually 4:30, 5:00, 5:30, 6:00.
    Ronde.
Dutch for loop. "Rondje Vondelpark" means one Vondelpark lap.
    Vondelpark loop.
The 3.3 km outer tarmac circuit. The default Amsterdam running unit.
    Amstelpark.
A quieter 2.5 km loop in Zuid, popular for intervals.
    No-drop.
The slowest runner sets the pace. Nobody is left behind.
    Recovery run.
Easy effort the day after a hard session, usually 5 to 6:30 min/km.
    Fartlek.
Swedish for "speed play". Unstructured surges built into a normal run.
    Tempo run.
Sustained comfortably-hard effort, typically 4:30 to 5:00 min/km in Amsterdam.
    Koffie-na-de-run.
The post-run coffee stop, often the actual point of the run.
    Tikkie.
The Dutch payment-request app used to settle group coffee or post-run bitterballen.
    Borrel.
The Friday or post-race drinks. Beer not optional.
Where do these clubs usually meet in Amsterdam?+
    Vondelpark (Oud-Zuid).
The gravitational centre. Anchored by Sunday Run Club, Adidas Runners, and the Tuesday intervals crowd.
    Amstelpark (Zuid).
Quieter loops along the Amstel river. Used by ATAC and tempo sessions.
    Oost (Oosterpark, Flevopark).
City Alps Run Club Friday 07:00 from Coffee Bru, plus Frankendael and Amstel-east routes.
    Pijp (Sarphatipark).
Small park, mostly used as a meeting point before runs head to Amstel or Vondelpark.
    Noord (NDSM).
NDSM Run Club Sundays 07:45 with 5 and 10 km options along the IJ. Ferry-in territory.
    Westerpark.
The morning crowd, calmer than Vondelpark. Good for first-timers in West.
    Sloterplas (Nieuw-West).
A 6 km loop around the lake. The Saturday 10:15 Boothuis run/walk club anchors here.
    Erasmuspark (West).
Neighbourhood-scale loops. Less club traffic, more solo and informal pairs.

    Run Clubs

Every NYC run club worth showing up to, sorted by pace and neighborhood. BK-heavy, mostly free, post-run beer…

Find the club that meets near your front door, show up once. The mist, the Vondelpark grass, the coffee afterwards, the rest takes care of itself.
