How the NYC rave scene actually works
The NYC rave scene lives at a small set of venues that program techno, house and their harder offshoots almost every night: Nowadays and Mister Sunday in Ridgewood, Bossa Nova Civic Club and Good Room in Brooklyn, Public Records and 3 Dollar Bill, plus warehouse one-offs at spaces like The Brooklyn Monarch and Superior Ingredients. Big-room nights (Avant Gardner, Brooklyn Mirage) are a separate world; this page leans toward the club-scale and warehouse parties where you can actually move.
Timing is the whole game. Most club nights open around 10 or 11 PM and the real crowd lands after 1 AM; open-to-close and all-night sets run until sunrise, and daytime parties (Mister Sunday, rooftop sessions) start in the afternoon. Tickets are usually cheaper on the first-release tier and climb as the date nears; a lot of parties are also door-only cash. Expect $15 to $40 depending on the lineup, more for a marquee international booking.

- Open to close
- One DJ plays the entire night, no support, no set changeovers. Usually a resident or a headliner the promoter trusts to hold a room for six-plus hours.
- Warehouse party
- A rave in a non-club industrial space, often address-on-RSVP. Bigger sound, rougher room, later curfew than a licensed club.
- Day party
- Afternoon-into-evening rave, often outdoors or on a rooftop. Mister Sunday is the template. Easier entry point if you don't want a 4 AM night.
- B2B
- 'Back to back', two DJs sharing one booth and trading records through a set. Listed as 'A b2b B' on the lineup.
- Afterhours
- A party that starts when the clubs close, roughly 4 AM onward. A NYC scene staple; the crowd is there to dance until daylight.

Most club nights run $15 to $40 at the door, cheaper if you catch the first ticket release. Marquee international bookings and warehouse events can go higher. A fair number of nights are cash-only at the door.
What time should I actually show up?+
For a club night, the room fills after 1 AM and peaks between 2 and 4. If you want it less crowded, come at open (10 or 11 PM). Day parties are the opposite: get there in the afternoon.

For a big lineup, yes, they sell out and door prices climb. For a regular resident night you can usually pay at the door, cash. Warehouse parties often release an address only after you RSVP.
What is the difference between a rave and a club?+
